This article is a continuation of an article posted last week on retirement in Mexico. This week we talk about great retirement options near the U.S. border.

Rocky Point
Rocky Point (also known as Puerto Peñasco) has become very popular as a travel destination and for retirement. It’s close proximity to the U.S. border and the state of Arizona—only 66 miles south of the U.S. border and 210 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona—is one of the big reasons it is so well liked. The old fishing town has been around since the 1930’s and has a population of about 26,000; it still has that small town feel. Stretching along the Sea of Cortes in the Sonoran desert, the climate ranges from 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter, to 100 or more in the summer.
Retirees come to Rocky Point for either modest RV living on the beach for $12-$20 per day, or for a more permanent residence ranging anywhere from $65k to $500k, depending on your wants/needs.
Rocky Point is rich in marine-life and fishing is very popular; there are many fishing charter companies that cater to deep-sea fishermen –and women. Other sporting events you can enjoy in Rocky Point include: sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, playing in the sand dunes, and automobile and motorcycle racing.
A great place to visit or live, Rocky Point is one of the few Mexico resort areas where you can still feel you are in an “authentic” Mexican village. For more information visit http://www.rockypoint.com/.
San Felipe
San Felipe lies along the Baja of California’s pacific coastline in the area known as Baja Norte. This tranquil fishing village of only 20,000 residents is only a two-and-a-half hour drive south of the border from California. The environment is pristine with long stretches of white sandy beaches with a boardwalk inviting evening strolls and magnificent views. The waterfront areas around San Felipe are very active, and due to a renovation of the downtown area, San Felipe is now considered somewhat modern and unique. Retirees find San Felipe somewhat exceptional and fascinating, due to having both a North American touch combined with Mexican flavor. Land prices are substantially less than in the more popular Baja South (Cabo San Lucas, etc.). The only drawback to living in San Felipe are the crowds that come during the months of March and April to celebrate spring break, due to its close proximity to Southern California.
